Wedding Flowers with Feathers

Feathers are such a delicate romantic accessory to wedding flowers, they really do give that fairytale look. The great thing about feathers is they can be incorporated into wedding flowers in many different ways. Couples often use them as a theme to run through their wedding details including them on their invitations, table planner and even placing them into the wine glasses on the table.

We've been incorporating them into wedding flowers in many different ways and here a few of our ideas to help you if you're thinking of using them.

Feathers in the Bridal Bouquet

Feathers and rose bridal bouquet

In this photo you can see how we gave this beautiful handtied posy of ivory roses a stunning collar of soft ivory marabou feathers. This was created for a January wedding with a colour theme of ivory and cool blue to reflect the cool icy winter wedding theme.

It was a perfect choice as the feathers added a soft texture to the cool colour theme, and what a perfect colour theme the couple chose. The weather for once excelled and it was a beautiful frosty white scene outside and right on cue the snow started to fall (in small amounts) as the ceremony began.

The bride also asked us to incorporate the ivory and cool blue feathers into the tall table arrangements. They are particularly effective when placed on the end of long strands of steel grass as they bounce delicately around on the air currents.

If you are having a shower (cascade) bouquet you can also add feathers into your bouquet.

You can see in the photo above how deep red feathers have been added to this stunning orchid shower bouquet. The feathers were attached to bear grass and helped add to the beautiful cascading shower shape.

Feathers in Wedding Table Centerpieces

There are lots of ways to incorporate feathers into your table centerpieces and it's up to you how large or small you want them to be. There is such a good choice of colors that I can normally always find the right ones to match the colour scheme. In the photo below you can see how I have incorporated the large cerise pink ostrich feathers into these tall centrepieces.

This is actually a photograph of my wedding centrepieces as we chose to go for a very flamboyant and bight colour scheme which reflected our tropical choice of flowers. The feathers worked well to give us extra height, as the ceiling in our venue was so high.

Feather Accessories

You don't have to go mad and use feathers everywhere you might just chose to use a small amount and what better way than with your flower girls.

These flower wands have become increasingly popular for flower girls aged 3-6yrs as they make fun accessories that they just might hang on to. We often use feathers in them instead of foliage to give that cute little girl look.
